Dell 10-inch netbook / tablet hybrid with swivel display

Boy, did Dell show off the craziest device on stage at Intel IDF 2010. What started as a tablet device converted to a netbook just by opening to the keyboard and literally swiveling the screen from within the frame. This hybrid'sIt's got a 10-inch screen, houses a dual-core Atom N550 and runs Windows 7 Premium and should ship by the end of this year. And if it looks at all familiar, that's because we saw something eerily similar in a leak from April (hello, Sparta). Two more shots of its transformation after the break.

Anyone seen this yet? Looks pretty crazy, I think it's a pretty innovative design, although looks like it could be quite flimsy, would love to know the pricing though, definitely interesting to see if OSX86 ever winds up on this.

It does look extremely fragile mid-screenflip but is an interesting design.

Didn't Acer show something like this at this year's CES show? I seem to remember a bunch of tech journalists talking about some netbook that would let you remove the screen and it became a touch screen tablet.

I think that was more a tablet with a dockable keyboard and trackpad, I'll try and find a link.

I actually think this might be brilliant...

I had a Lenovo X60 Thinkpad Tablet and the one-latch design that can turn 180 degrees not only made the notebook significantly thicker and bulkier, but it wasn't as sturdy so just typing while it was on your lap would shake the screen.

I think most people who have used laptop/tablet hybrids will agree with me that the old latch design is flawed... this might be better but I can't say, but just from how it is design is from what I know, I think it probably is.

you will be surprised. If they can put a good touch screen on it I would not mind seeing some full size laptops have things like that. It would allow for note taking in any form since i could hand write my notes. Computer keyboards are crap when it comes dealing with formals and diagrams

That design just screams delicate. I can't see how that could be used on a day to day basis. Plus the orange color yikes

I suppose that's the difference between apple and its competitors. Apple has great designers that obsess over the smallest details, and it seems the marketing department is running the engineering department over at dell.

I don't like that design. To me, it's just another netbook.

I wanna see some iPad-like tablets with multitouch - running either Android or the upcoming Chrome OS.

Personally, I don't want a full OS (especially Windows) on my tablet. I have a couple of desktops at home for that.

Good point also the bulk of the device is another factor. I can't help think with the added keyboard that its going to be bulky. If you want a netbook get one, if you want a tablet get one. Putting the two together in some sort of Frankenstein design is ludicrous

I agree the software is a very strong selling point - unfortunately, anything non-Apple touch-screen on the market now is basically just Windows for touchscreen, which sucks. If they can put a ground-up new OS and new, reworked software on it, it might do better. Simply running touch Windows... flop.

Well windows can handle multi touch that much is known. I was more thinking about other software. MS has some that at might most would require minor tweaks from MS end and it would be great. OneNote I is what I think could easily be turned into a very powerful tool. MS hand writing reconitions was pretty good 7-8 years ago so that could be thrown in.

Mix that with some improvements in office to handle all of this and it turns it into a very powerful tool. It is not the OS that is the problem but the software running on the OS.

No one really has made software that runs in a fully desktop OS and great with multitouch.
