I know this is under the "mac hardware section" but I need some help with my parent's dell computer.

This is the post I put in on the Dell's forum:

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop and it won't turn on. There is a light on the back of the power supply that is turned on. There is no blue light in the front. When you hit the power button, nothing happens. The computer is usually on all day and off during the night. One morning it just didn't turn on. I have XP and W7 on the HD on separate partitions. I have had the computer for almost 2 years now and there isn't any warranty left on it.

My first thought was that the power supply within the computer went bad. But since the little yellow light is on, I don't know what to do now. I opened up the side panel on the computer and there is a light on the MotherBoard that is on when the computer is receiving power (it goes out when it's unplugged). When I attempted to call costumer service, I got the automated crap and they just wanted me to buy into Dell's "premium costumer service".

Any ideas?

Now I am a Mac guy. I'm not a big fan of dell or any other brand besides Apple. I know a decent amount about computers but I'm just in high school still.

Please let me know what you all think.. Most of you know a lot more technical things than I do right now.

Thanks

JD

Hey

I'm a Dell reseller. It's the power supply, I know the lil green light is on, haha but it's still the power supply.

If u have a slim tower ur power supply is a Dell proprietary, $120. If u have a fat case then any power supply should fit.
Your also prolly under warranty. In which case a 3rd party rep will come to ur house and change the part for free
