Have a Dell C2665dnf that I’ve used for a number of years. No problems printing or scanning in Mojave.

After upgrading to Catalina it will print, but hangs on “waiting for scanner” via Image Capture. Deleted all printers and re-added - auto selects AirPrint as the type.

As the driver is done from the OS I’m hoping its something that can be fixed rather than a 32-bit issue.

thoughts?

Per Dell site, last update was back in February, so, MAYBE still 32-bit and or not updated for Catalina, as how extensions/drivers have changed since then (believe now need to be signed/approved by Apple, and pushing developers to using user space extensions vs system). To quote:

DriverKit and user space system extensions
Previously many hardware peripherals and sophisticated features needed to run their code directly within macOS using kernel extensions, or kexts. Now these programs run separately from the operating system, just like any other app, so they can’t affect macOS if something goes wrong.

So if Dell has not updated for user space...

Looks like that printer is six years old, so, not surprised issues, a bit of a relic. I had a Brother multifunction that ran into same issue a few years back, printed ok, but scanner was real hit/miss (mostly miss). Printing is pretty straight forward (generic Postscript, HPGL, etc).

The printer and scanner works fine in Mojave. No problems with the unit whatsoever.

After more research it’s clearly a 32-bit driver issue. Might need to buy Vuescan to use under Catalina. No sense in replacing a perfectly good printer.
