Got a new Dell U3014 30" monitor to replace my burned out 24" Dell, but the diplay is terrible! Blurry and blown out colors, the text is all scrambled. I tried the ruby patch from termminal which worked, but made no difference in the monitor. The system is a Mac Pro 8core from 2007 running 10.7.5, not compatible with 10.8.5 as I've heard this os update fixed this problme. I've also tried this monitor on my 2011 IMac 27". The display is better under 10.8.5, but the max resulution is only 1920X1080 instead of the native 2560X1600. So it seems this monitor doesn't work with any of my Macs! Any Ideas? I really need this on my Mac Pro though, try the IMac was just to see if OS 10.8.5 made any difference.

It looks bad because you're not running the native resolution.

Had a client call me with exactly the same problem only with a pair of those Dell 30 inchers driven by an Nvidia NVS 510. Turns out his staff ordered a pair of mini display port to DVI cables from eBay - which were single link DVI

The resolution problem is a cable issue. In the other thread you stated this was for a 2011 imac. A 2007 mac pro explains the use of dvi, but you would definitely need a dual link cable to support 2560x1400. The same was true with the 30" cinema display. It couldn't run properly off single dvi.
Not sure what type of cable adaptor you're using as it may just be a "passive" cable that does not upsample the maximum resolution. It is possible to get a Dell 30" monitor working well with a Mac Pro, even an ancient one. In my case, I have two 30" Dell monitors - a U3011 and a U3014. My Mac Pro is a 1,1 running 10.7.5 with a flashed XFX 4870 video card. This video card has two DL DVI connectors, but only one of them works in DL mode - a known issue. Connecting either the U3011 or U3014 to the "good" DVI connector results in a full 2560x1600 (native) display.
