hello, I am thinking of getting a dell U3415 ultra wide monitor to use for both my work PC and Mac mini. I have a 2012 Mac mini with Intel hd 4000 graphics. I don't think that can power the full res 3440 x 1440, but if I connect via thunderbolt to display port does anyone know if I can get 2560 x 1080?
Thanks very much.

Yes you can.

From EveryMac.com:
The 2012 mini with Intel HD 4000 graphics can simultaneously support 1920x1200 on an HDMI display or a DVI display using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and 2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).

Thanks. That's good news. I assume I will have the option to use 2560 x 1080 (as opposed to 1600) to keep the aspect ratio. I will give it a try. Hopefully will look ok until I eventually get a newer mini that can drive the full resolution. Thanks again.

Yes.

Also you can run 3440x1440@50Hz on Mavericks. Unfortunately that ability was lost in Yosemite, even if you use a third party utility like SwitchResX.

No current Mac mini can support a display greater than 2560x1600 without dropping to 30 Hz, which results in nothing less than a really poor experience unfortunately. I've been there and I don't find a display remotely usable at 30 Hz - cursor control is painful and animations are generally very choppy.
