I really want a new monitor.

and now i have last 2 choice.

Dell Ultrasharp 24" 2408 vs. Apple LED Cinema Display

please advice me.

my situation

1) I'm using mac pro early 2008 that make me must to buy Apple's 4870 or GT 120 to drive 24" ACD, that make all money I must pay for apple is around $944 (1-yr apple care) vs. Dell at $560 (with 5-yr warranty). is it worth?

2) I hate glossy screen but love a new ACD design very much. some people say 24" iMac screen (S-IPS) make his eye pain when using that screen for a long time do your guys think about this ?

3) my current monitor is 20" ACD, my new monitor must be better (or equal) than it. can your guy say 24" Dell is better than 20"ACD in term of color. (old S-IPS in 20" vs. S-PVA)
 
the dell monitor will NEVER be better then the apple monitor basically because the ACD uses the superior panel, i guess it just comes down to whether you care about the quality THAT much, and whether you need the extra size.

personally i go for screen size, its up to you though!
 
And HP ?

I know it's neither of the 2 choice you offered...
But I recently bought the HP LP2475w 24 inch and I am truly happy with it

TFT panel, extended gamut, mat screen, a million of different connection (really), zero default, bought it for about 450E, I think it costs less in the US.

Take a look on http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ they have good priase for it.

I just recently purchased the 2408wfp and I am amazed by the color accuracy. My friend has the 20acd and I don't know why, but it is no where near as bright or accurate. Get the dell and save yourself a few hundred bucks. The actual design of the monitor is not up to par with the ACD, but from my experience you will be much happier with the dell. Check out some of other threads on here. One has a comparison of the 2408wfp and the 24" led. I learned alot there. The only thing with the mva is when you drag a picture from one side of the monitor to the other side there is some color shifting. I guess that is somewhat normal with the mva's. The ACD does not do that.

In my country.HP LP2475w are expensive than LED 24" + 4870.

So you mean to tell me that an LP2475w is more expensive in your country than US $1,248 worth of hardware? An LP2475w costs around $600 here.
 
Wooohaaa geesh, where I bought it (in france) it was pretty half the price...

Yes, In Thailand HP call center tell me retail price of LP2475w is 45,000 bth. (around $1216). and 30-inch is 85,000bth. ($2388)

so sad

but other HP product (eg. laptop, PC, TN-Film LCD Display etc.) price are reasonable (nearly US price +- 10%)

I'm not saying you're wrong but I find this incredibly hard to believe. Brightness and accuracy are 2 entirely separate issues. What hardware did you use to calibrate the 2 displays before comparing them?

I used to use a 30" ACD (calibrated by eye) until the need for multiple multi-media inputs overcame my previous need for screen real-estate. On the strength of many internet recommendations, I bought a Dell 2408wfp. I was unable to get the thing even close to a reasonable colour profile. It was pink and it stayed pink, whatever I did. It also "fringed" fonts very badly, but that's another issue. Regarding the colour fidelity, I even bought a Spyder and used that to calibrate the beast but it did no good.

Upon consulting the internet, I found that all the glowing reviews were praising the 2407wfp, from the previous year, rather than the current 2408wfp. Everyone was having issues with the new model. I sent my 2408wfp back for a refund and cast my net elsewhere.

I now have the HP LP2475w with its H-IPS panel and it's been dialled in nicely with the Spyder. Now that I use a hardware calibrator, it looks as good as I remember my ACD to have been. When I first turned it on, it had a very slight pinkish cast to the extreme left-hand side and a very slight greenish cast to the extreme right. After a few hundred hours of use, this seems to have calmed down.

Bottom line: Dell had an excellent monitor in the 2407wfp, but the 2408wfp is a dog! If you're strapped for cash or you need the inputs, the HP LP2475w is probably an excellent choice. If you require the best colour fidelity on a reasonable budget, and you can survive on a single input, buy an ACD.
 
The Dell is a very, very nice monitor. All the panels come out of the same 3 or 4 OEMs in China anyway. So forget all that stuff about superior panels in this case.
 
if only factor is GLOSSY on ACD vs Matte on Dell.

Which one is the better pick.
 
Unless you go with NEC, your best bet for color accuracy is the HP 2475W after being calibrated.

That would be more of a personal preference, can't speak for other folks but I prefer the matte because I don't like the reflection of a glossy screen.

Has a superior H-IPS panel as to Dells inferior S-PVA panels. Also the 24" LED ACD has a superior LED backlighting technology as to the older CCFL backlighting that Dell has which dims 50% of its original backlighting per year.

Not to mention Apple uses better quality components to put together a display as to Dell. Apple uses same components as Eizos do, Dell does not.

Do you have any sort of empirical evidence to support your frequent claim that CCFL loses 50% of the brightness per year?
