I have the opportunity to buy this monitor for cheap. I am a creative professional, and I do a lot of graphic design work. I don't want to spend 1g on the apple display (that i want sooo bad) but i want the 1900 x 1200 resolution...so how is this dell monitor instead? good, accurate color? anyone use this with a Mac Pro and 7300 GT? How does it compare technically to the ACD 23"?

I would buy the ACD.
I got a 2407WFP and it was a piece. Looked horrible no matter how much I calibrated. And it still had the gradient banding issue.
I do think most people are fine with the 2405 though. However as a creative professional you would be doing yourself a service by getting the ACD.

It's a no brainer. I just picked up a Dell 2407fpw for $599 and its phenominal. Thats the price from Dell with 25% off found on ebay. I have the 2405fpw and its just as nice as the 2407. Go for it.
People that talk smack about the Dell monitors either don't have one, got a bad one (which happens with all companies) or just are so freakin Apple fanboys they can't recommend anything else. I personally think the dells are way better than the apple cinema for under 30" because of the extra ports and the color is great. Don't listen to people saying it sucks. Dell has a standard 3yr warranty and an optional 5yr warranty for $50. Apple can't touch that.

I think the monitor is decent for regular users (we have a few in our office). but for a graphic designer, I would not recommend it. The colors are pretty inaccurate, and viewing it off of 1 or 2 degrees and it can look pretty bad.
For a regular internet surfer, i think its great. But if your job is similair to myn (software development, graphic design and web development), where having inaccurate colors might cost you your job, its worth the extra money for the ACD.

I've got the 2405 with my 7300 Mac Pro. It's been a very good monitor so far. The only problem is that I've had some problems calibrating it even with the Syder 2 colorimeter. It seems like it always comes back too dark and slightly greenish. 
At least that's how it seems. Anyone who knows the Spyder 2 could maybe lend me a hand? Ive been aiming for 1.8 Gamma w/ 6500K white point.
As a video professional I love having the screen real estate. It makes so much sense for every program I use. I was able to calibrate it successfully w/ my Powerbook, but for some reason the MP is giving me trouble (w/ the Spyder). I was thinking about getting another one (24 or 20), but with this late color trouble, Im not so sure. Im considering getting a good old CRT for the color-critical work and video preview. Theres just something nice about how video looks on a CRT more lively & real.
But for everything else, the Dell is a beauty. I love those connections!
