Dell UltraSharp 27 USB-C Monitor - U2719DC will be my main monitor, and I intend to connect the M1 MacMini via its USB-C Port using a USB-C cable. I know the Dell monitor‘s USB-C port outputs power, as I have used it with an iPad Pro and it charges.

Does the fact the this Dell monitor outputs power via its USB-C port potentially cause damage to the USB-C port on the M1 MacMini?

Sorry for the dumb question. The only USB-C device I am familiar with is the iPad Pro.

I intend to use a plain old HDMI port to a second Dell Monitor, so if everything works out I’ll have two monitors working out of the M1 MacMini.

Thanks in advance for any advice. i just don’t want to blow up the M1 Macmini on the first dayo_O

Power Delivery is a negotiated protocol so unless the mini or the monitor have a horrible bug it should work. You might want to contact Apple though for peace of mind.

Using an HDMI connected second monitor is the only 2nd monitor solution that works with the M1 mini.

I have the very same monitor and experience with several PCs and MACs. Power over USB is exactly as jdb8167 desciped, always negotiated before submitting power to the bus. So as they are standardized products, there should not be any possibility to broke display or computer.

What I am more curious about will be what link rate will be negotiated with macmini as I use U2719DC and U2719D and like to daisy chain these using the diaplayport.

You mean the first monitor is connected to the second monitor using the display port cable, and the second monitor is connected to the Mac using the usb-c cable? I thought this was referred to as MST and not supported on Mac?

Yes. USB-C, in fact, is moving the DP signal through USB-cable, so you can use DP output on the screen and put on to the next monitor. The problem with this exact display is that some why with windows laptops DP link is only HBR2, not HBR3, so with a full refresh rate, you cant have full HBR3 speed. Could you check what your display OSD shows as a link? Its located under the menu->Others->Display info. If mini can drive full HBR3, that could be the driver for me to order M1 mini.

Edit: I don't know about MST support, so sad if that is the case :/

I bought a Dell P2720DC monitor to connect it via USB-C to my M1 mini. I chose this monitor since it includes a couple of USB 3.0 ports. However, I cannot get them to work with the M1 Mini. Did anybody get the USB ports on this or another Dell USB-C monitor to work with an M1 mini? There was a discussion on this Forum regarding a 4k USB-C monitor and the pre-M1 MBA where the menu option "USB-C prioritization" was discussed as an option. However, this menu option is greyed out, at least on my monitor.

I think that not all USB-C cables carry video. are you sure that yours does ?

I have the same issue with Dell U2721DE: USB-C connected to M1 mini. Video is OK, however none of USB downstream ports is working.
