It seems to be around the web that the general feeling of iOS is dated. OS X has been around for 13 years and has basically the same familiar layout and aqua theme. Smartphones with Android have been around for 5 years. Microsoft with Windows 8 still has the same desktop interface look that they introduced with Vista in 2005. No one complains of a dated interface with these operating systems.

Excuse if it seems like an ignorant question, but why is it only iOS which seems to be copping this flack?

Please post your thoughts.

Please don't confuse a few vocal tech geeks with the population at large.

To add to this I'd like to know why so many "geeks" want Apple to copy Windows 8/Android. Every iOS concept design these days just looks like a rip off of Metro. All the rounded corners are gone. Since when are rounded corners considers skeuomorphic?

I'm sure there are ways to get rid of the ugly stuff in iOS without turning it into Windows or Android.

So just keep the same UI for 20 years until someone else comes along at changes the game.

This is simply a case of people questioning Apple's ability to keep up with competition. Apple has been ahead of everyone else for the past few years now, but the gap is closing as competition find ways of delivering great interfaces without infringing on Apple's all important patents. It all makes iOS look a little stale and dated.

It's just a bunch of shills and wannabe shills regurgitating cliches. I would be happy not to believe this, if these critics could enunciate why they believe iOS is "boring" and "stale", but I can't see that happening any time soon.

Meanwhile 99.9999% of real people love the iOS UI.

The complaint I've heard a lot is that iOS is not customizable enough. When I look at my iOS devices, I wonder how would I want to customize it to have more or something different than I currently have, and I can't come up with anything significant. Maybe organize info on a seperate main page?
