So, we know the Milanese Loop has different models. The new version's magnet slips through the hoop for wireless charging.

Is there any difference between the new and old Sport Loops and Sport Bands?

I know they can be used interchangeably (38mm with 40mm, and vice versa. 42mm with 44mm, and vice versa), but are the newer models EXACTLY the same?

It seems like Apple was already preparing for this with the 38mm and 42mm size just being stickers on the boxes.

(They appear to be to me, looking at them closely under strong light. But these are different colors).

I don't have any Series 3 and Series 4 of the same band. If you got both of these for the same size, would they be the exact same band or did they do actual tweaks to make it better for Series 4?

There is definitely a difference with the Milanese and Spot Loop Bands.

The connectors of the old and new watch design have exactly the same width, but the new watches stick out a little more, so that the connectors are a little deeper in (if that makes sense).
For some old bands (like the milanese and sport loop bands) this means that the old connector will be in a little deeper with new watches, whereas with new bands and old watches, this means that the connector will stick out a little bit more.

With bands that are 'one pice' rather than having a connector, like the regular sport bands or leather loops, I don't know whether they changed the design.

Yes, I guess both new watches would be 1mm wider on each side.

The watches are not wider at the connectors though.
Apple changed the curvature of the rounded corners so that they would be the very same width as with the previous design, even though the rest of the watch body is wider.

I found this out today when a third-party watch band company would talk about the related issues. Apparently some older third-party bands do not fit the new series 4 design, Apple however made sure that their old bands all fit.

Apparently the connectors in the new watch design now go in 0,6mm deeper.

I thought the same thing. It won't go through by accident, but if you line it up and apply a small amount of pressure, it will.
