I am a professional Graphic Designer. I have always used a desktop version of Mac for all my work, be it MBPro or my current 27" iMac setup.
After watching WWDC, I am really intrigued by the Affinity Photo demo on the 12.9" iPad Pro, especially with the new Files and Drag and Drop coming in iOS 11.
Besides the loss of screen real-estate from my iMac, who believes this new configuration could be a replacement on the pro design level? I've only owned one iPad before, the Mini 3. I do miss the portability of the MBPro, and this tablet setup really seems to bridge the gap between tablet and laptop.
I spend most of my day inside Photoshop and Illustrator, and it looks like I could accomplish most of my current tasks using Affinity Photo, which I have yet to try out. Would love to be able to drop the subscription model here. If they ever bring a pro version of Designer over the iOS, it may just completely tip the scale to dump Adobe altogether.
I am wondering though if any designers out there are also looking at dumping the laptop for this hardware setup? The nice new 120Hz refresh rate on a 12.9" with Apple Pencil (which I have never tried out, Wacom Intuos 4 here), Smart keyboard, and the great new features in the upcoming iOS 11 with Files, Drag & Drop, and 4 app multitasking.
Final cost would still be in the ballpark of a new 13" MB Pro (2.3GHz, 512GB SSD) when all is said and done with upgrades/add-ons (512GB model, Pencil, Smart Keyboard).
May be looking to make the upgrade in fall with the release of iOS 11. TIA for your feedback!
