designing my site. Need suggestions

Well it sure is bright. The reflection is a little odd since it falls behind the movie in the middle.
You have both POrtfolio and Flash listed. Are the flash example not in your portfolio?
At this point given how limited the site is I would say it is a good dtart but needs a little more content along with spit and polish. THe navigation at the top is good with te orange but for the body i woud steer clear of using big splashes of orange as it minimizes the effect of the bright color.
My only hesitation is that this is a site to showcase your work (I assume) given that I would tone down the navigation so that your screen shots and portfolio pop more.

First I'd kill off the bevelling on the logo, then I'd drastically smooth it out on the buttons.

Drop the reflections they are overdone and try and limit moving stuff that has no purpose. Take a look at my site www.stuartluff.co.uk. Im not saying its great, but it is a no thrills approach that looks ok with subtle touches that give it a bit of impact.
I generally go with neutral colours as a basis then compliment them with one bright colour to get a sharp contrast thats really memorable. Try and come up with a strong looking logotype or symbol that can be the focus of the site. Im working on a site at the moment and the logo is made up of squares and I have used squares to represent buttons and images so it all ties together.
FYI my site was done in Apples iWeb and took about 2 hours. Im now working on a revision with a new logo.
That is the best site design I've seen. Content is clear, buttons and links are easy to find. Really draws the user in, but not too much. It helps the viewer through the content. Very nice, perfect design.supremedesigner said:

I think after a while you'll start to see that all sites look like that and people will start making their buttons more like deviantart style.
Whilst I am not a web designer by trade (I'm a web developer), I have to say that I like the ideas behind your design, but I think that you could probably tone it down a bit - make it a bit more simple. I'd say lose the patterning on the header at the top - the texture detracts too much from the rest of the page. Why not try a subtle gradient instead. I would also be tempted to remove the lens flare from the logo in the middle, and tone the bevel down a bit - its a little difficult to read the word design. I like the idea of the buttons at the top - why not remove the border from around the edge of them to amplify the 3d effect. Finally, I'm a fan too of reflections and what you've done is nice. However, just try a slight grad from white to transparent from the bottom - this will create that reflection onto a polished surface that you are looking for.
As I said, I'm not a web designer, but I work with a few and these are just things that I've picked up from them.

It took me a long time to settle on that design - so many different approaches I wanted to take - I really like the techy designs, but I feel that something more rough around the edges would be a bit different.
As I said, I'm not a web designer, but I work with a few and these are just things that I've picked up from them.
