Desk recommendations?

Looking for a new desk and wanted to see if you all had any recommendations. Already checked the old forums and it seems that Ikea is popular. What do you guys recommend. I would have my macbook pro 15, ipad, and iphone charger on the desk. I would also need room to study (large textbooks). I would like a desk with good depth. I am also a tall person (6 ft). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I looked forever until I bought my current desk (and view it only as a temporary solution).

For 10 years I was spoiled, using a 2500$ Nigel Video Editing Desk. But it was too big for my current office area. I wept as I sold it to some punk kid who had no clue what he was getting.

Just my opinion but there seems to be a massive gap between the cheapo/undersized stuff you can get at the Office Depots of the world...and the nice professional desks.

I wish someone would come out with nice offerings in the 400-800 $ range.

And U shaped. For me...gotta give me some matching wings out to left and right.

Or you just get two matching L-Shapes and stick them together. That's what I do.

Here is a trick that I swear by.

Buy a solid and uncut door and a set of legs from Ikea. You get massive desk space for really cheap and a whole range of woods and veneers, stainless steel etc. An equivalent sized desk costs at least 3 times as much. I've also used small book cases as legs for extra storage which works and looks great.

You can get some seriously good looking legs from Ikea too.

So nice having big space if you have enough space

I got my current desk from Ikea and picked out the wood and legs. I do remember the legs being fairly cheap too.

That is a really good idea, much more space, same style, and better price. I definitely gotta do that next time around!

I've heard the Swedes make good legs. (I couldn't resist).

Gonna look into this. Sadly I think I may make my own legs but still finding a desk top in one piece is hard.

I made mine from scratch. Paid £16 for the wood (mdf) and about £6 for the screws. The cheapest equivilent in size was about £200.
