Hello! Do you know if Apple and Microsoft are going to update Word/Excel apps on the new iPadOS to support all the advanced features from the Pc/Mac versions? (like macros, reference tables,...) Thank you!

Finally a new member who has actually got manners!

Hello to you too and welcome

Personally I’ve not heard of any news but you might want to post on the official Microsoft Office forums. I would have thought there would be more up to date information there (assuming Microsoft have revealed or leaked their road plans). It would be Microsoft who are responsible for updates.

But you never know, someone with more knowledge than me (not difficult to be fair) may come along and be able to help.

Thanks for answering! Regarding the Microsoft forums, indeed I tried, and also via chat, but the only thing i got by answer is that Microsoft has 'limited access' to iOS, so they cannot improve their mobile apps at the desired rate. Likewise, the ball is on Apple's roof, as I understood. I hope some dev comes across with this post and port the full version of word/excel to iPadOS, so I definitely can marry my Ipad lolol. Kind regards from Spain.

It is my understanding that Apple won't allow macro functionality in Microsoft apps for security reasons.

"Limited access to iOS" is more of a convenient excuse than the root reason why the iOS version of MS Office is limited. Android doesn't suffer from the heavy-handedness that Apple employs with iOS and THAT version is just as limited.

It's not a secret that MS is working toward "Office as a service" and they've really been working hard to enhance the web version of Office. That is platform-independent and allows MS to retain the core of their value.

The web version is significantly more advanced than the mobile versions (iOS/Android) and allows chromebooks to be serious office productivity devices.

When I need to use MS Office on my iPad (iPad 6), I use the online version. Works surprisingly well.
