I'm on the latest Beta of Ventura. But I don't know it's a general feature of MacOS.

I haven't seen this behaviour before.

I changed the name of the Mac in System Settings > General > About

from Mac Mini M1 to Mini

and since then I have a new icon on the desktop (red square)

I did not find a way to turn this icon off, which seems to be the Locations icon in the sidebar.

Anyone knows what's happening here?

Thanks

finder>settings>general. uncheck 'show hard disk on desktop" (or whatever that language is)...
Thanks. I tried that. It only gets rid of the Mini HD and Time Machine, but not the Mac Mini Icon.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
