I have this odd problem where all my desktop icons disappear as soon as I plug in an HDMI external monitor.
They disappear from the desktop itself as well as from any Finder windows that I have open to "Desktop."
As soon as I unplug the monitor, they all pop back on again.
I've tried restarting the Finder, restarting the Mac, and opening Terminal and typing "killall Finder." Also tried two different USB-C Digital AV Multiport adaptors, a J5 Create Multiport adaptor, and two different monitors.
One note: if I do a screenshot with the external monitor plugged in, the OS puts that new screenshot on the desktop for me. However, if I then unplug and re-plug the monitor, the screen shot file disappears along with everything else.
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017), OS 10.14.2
Graphics:
Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB
Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Any thoughts? This one is making me crazy.
Thank you!
