Sometimes when I download files the files that exist on my desktop are rearranged. There seems to be no affect on speed or performance, but it just gets annoying to keep rearranging them. If anyone has a solution to this problem it would be much appreciated.

In the menu bar go to View->Show View Options after clicking on your desktop. Make sure the settings are as you want them..

if the above does not work, i would try repairing permissions... it can never hurt to do it anyway :)

since i have no idea as to your tech knowledge, you repair permissions as follow:
launch disk utility. it is in your applications/utilities folder
choose your hard drive on the left.
click repair permissions underneath the text box thing...

please don't feel offended if you knew how to repair permissions, but i've found it's best not to assume....

i'll go repair 'em too,

yeah, i know what you mean...coming from windows, finder irritated me because i couldn't figure out how to keep things orderly, a la` snap to grid in windows. but yeah, go to view options, and there is an option snap to grid.
