Desktop wallpaper changes to a previously used one after reboot

Hello!

I noticed a strange behavior on my Yosemite machine (public Beta 4), for some reason after a reboot my desktop wallpaper is changed to one I used months ago.

I change my desktop wallpaper every month to a new, monthly released desktop wallpaper released by a Japanese game company (http://www.falcom.co.jp/calendar/index.html if you are interested). Now after a reboot the wallpaper goes back to the picture from May this year and I have to manually change it back to the one of October.

Could this be a bug in Yosemite and did other people here using Yosemite experience this behavior? Or is this a problem that has been seen in previous versions OS X and anyone has an idea how I can fix this?

I've had this problem before with other os's. Try adding to iPhoto and set wallpaper via iphoto

I tried that now and added the October wallpaper to iPhoto and set it as the desktop wallpaper from iPhoto. However that didn't fix the problem, after a reboot I got again the May wallpaper on my desktop

I also checked now what happens, when I move the May wallpaper image file temporarily to a different location on my drive, since I collect them in a folder now for many years, and after a reboot I have now the default image from the Yosemite-Nationalpark on my desktop.

I am not sure what happened here, in May I was of course still using Mavericks and the problem didn't start in June when I switched to the June wallpaper image and I didn't start using Yosemite with DP1 in June (started using it with PB2 end of August).

Does anyone have an idea why OS X so desperately doesn't want to give up the wallpaper from May and is there a file in the Library folder I could try editing or deleting?

Happened to me a few times already, made a bug report.

I did do a little bit more searching around and it seems that this is indeed not something that started happening with Yosemite and is not a rare problem too. However there seem to be many different fixes and never one did solve the problem for everyone and in many threads till the end some people couldn't fix it.

One possible way seems to be deleting the files User/Library/Caches/com.apple.systempreferences and/orUser/Library/Caches/com.apple.desktop.plist.

For some people the problem was, that the image file was on an external drive which even though the drive is connected can cause the file not being available during bootup.

Another possible fix is booting into recovery mode and running fix permissions with Disk Utility.

All these fixes did help some people but didn't do it in my case. The image was in a folder on the local drive and not on an external drive, however what seems to have stopped the image from changing back all the time is not really a fix but at least a workaround for now. I copied the image into /Library/Desktop Pictures (not the one in the user directory) and set it as my wallpaper from there and now it seems to stay.

An acceptable workaround for now, but hope sometime in the future after an update it will just work again.
