Hi yall'

My name is Ashley. I'm a long time visitor, but first time registered member. I'm looking to lose about 15 pounds over the next few months in time for new years eve and wanted to know what you guys recommend for weight loss apps. I'm looking for things that are diet apps, not fitness trackers.

Any luck with any of these?

Losing weight is all about calories... there's no real other way than having a fairly good estimation of how many calories you're putting into yourself, learning about glycemic loads so sugar crashes don't have you looking for more, and the fullness factor of stuff you're eating.

I suppose other stuff applies, like packing you're own lunches, not going out of the house hungry, especially when grocery shopping.

Nutrition Workbench, llc is releasing a new Meal Analyzer app, perfect for figuring out calories and not an overkill for regular people like me.

I just use fitnessfirstonline diary through safari to record food and energy, not sure if they have something similar over there or not, but I think it's similar to the biggest loser one.

It looks like there is a popular calorie tracker out there called Lose It! There is also one that looks like it does the same thing, but its paid which is called Tap & Track Calorie Counter. I just read a CNET article that listed its 4 favorite apps: intelli-Diet, Lose It, and Calorie Counter Pro, and C25K. I'm looking for something that is more of a meal planner and not a calorie counter. Has anyone tried either intelli-Diet or Meal Board? I'd hate to pay for something i'm not going to like, so please let me know your experiences with any of these. But I just downloaded lose it anyways since its free.

So the human race didn't know how to diet, until iDevices came along?

LOL!

Well I think the diet industry is $50B! I know I paid a lot of money in diet books - theres a lot since theres a lot of people who buy them. I sure would rather pay $3.99 for intelli-Diet or $3.99 for Calorie Counter Pro than paid $19.99 for a thick book! Plus, let's not forget the free ones!

Here's one

I just started serious dieting within the past month. Have tried almost all the free apps. My favorite so far is MyFitnessPal. Similar to LoseIt but has a super up to date food database and a very active forum where they share recipes and other motivations.

I have Lose It! on my iPhone. It's a pretty good app, and lets you have a budget of calories based on your goals, and it adds and subtracts calories based on food and excercise. Admittedly, I haven't used it in a while.

Yeah - lose it is great at what it does, but it takes a lot of work and I definitely haven't used it as much as I should have. Have you tried doing the meal planner type apps? Where you eat portions instead of calories?

I lost 45lbs using Loseit. I like that it allowed you to enter your own items as well as recipes. As you lose weight you enter your new weight and you calorie allotment is then lowered. For example... either the protein bar not previously listed or... all the ingredients in the dish the family cooked for dinner and the number of servings.

Also you can copy previous meal (same thing for breakfast everyday) and also the items you use go into a list called MyFoods which is easier to navigate then the searching for the item every time.

I read an article recently that I believe said the top three success tips for losing weight are:

1) Weigh yourself often (if not daily)
2) Count Calories
3) Exercise

If after a couple week you don't see any results, don't be discouraged. Weight seems to drop all at once then hold, then drop off again. 1.5 lbs/week is a reasonable and attainable expectation. Good Luck.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your success, that is definitely inspiring! Congrats! I've used lose it and definitely like it. Sometimes I can't keep the rigor it takes to count calories all the time.

I switch between using that and intelli-Diet which is basically the anti-lose it where it plans the meal for you. I think it still know how many calories i ned to eat. I chose 1.5 lbs / week because 2.0 lbs seems to aggressive. Can you plan ahead using lose it? I can't seem to figure out how.

Anybody know if you can plan ahead using calorie trackers? Or is it just limited to meal planners?

I too vote for Lose It!

I started using it in mid-September. I have lost 28 pounds so far!!! I still have my nightly glass of merlot, and I haven't missed a Taco Tuesday yet :)

But I enter everything I eat in the website / app. The first week or two is a little bit more laborious than the rest, because once you start entering the foods and meals and restaurants you eat, then you can just go into "My Foods" or "Recipes" or "Previous Meals" to quickly add to current day something you've already had.

Hope this helps.

PS-- Lose It! is absolutely FREEEEEEEEEEE !!!
