Despite of everything, I just took the risk of buying a 27inch i7 2TB

Why?
Because I really hope it will just work.
I got the 2 TB after following a few threads about the 1TB model noise.
I just hope the screen has no flickering or yellow tints.

I have just ordered at an apple reseller, they reorder it from Apple so I expect to get an early 2010 model, something like week 1 hopefully.

Fingers crossed!!!
 
Hopefully it will all work out for you man. I have my 27" i7 on order right now too. In fact it was a warranty replacement from Apple for my older 24" that had been serviced several times. I certainly hope you're not really allowing this forum to decide for you where you should put your money. To buy the 2TB HDD which is $250 USD more just because you've read here about drive noise is a bit over the top. Hopefully you truly have a need for that much internal storage. I usually put all my extras on my external rather than dumping it all on my internal drive.

Anyways, your best bet, and your way to successful acceptance of your iMac is to take these statements on this forum with a grain of salt and only allow your eyes and ears to make decisions on what's defective and what's not. The more you read about negatives, the more you begin to see what may not necessarily be there. Good luck. :)
 
The past 3 days I have went through an i7 and an i5, both with yellow tint, but the i7 was 10x worst.

If you really want it, I guess you can try it. I had to try it too, despite all I was hearing. I'm going to wait now, or get a Mac Pro with an ACD.
 
my current i5 has no tint that I can see.. the first imac I got was the 21.5'' and it had a noticeable yellow tint to it.

Smart move mate,
The tens of thousands of customers that have purchased them that have no problems are not going to be on MR posting because they are satisfied.

I am sure it will be flawless mate, I just know you will love your new Mac :D

The odds are against this guy though. The mere fact that we know about one guy who exchanged 7 iMac and another one who exchanged 9 of them plus the laws of statistics say that the risk is very high.
 
Indeed maybe getting the 2 TB just for the noise was a bit too much.
But well, hard disk space is always welcome. This way I get a "more silent" computer, and probably never have to worry about hard disk space.
 
Hey OP. I know, we have all heard about the unfortunate problem people have been having with the new iMacs. But, I went ahead and got mine, and guess what.. FLAWLESS.

But really, if you look for problems, you'll find them.
Just enjoy your computer, man :)
If it's good enough for you, that's all that really matters.

I'm sorry that this forum has mind f*ucked us all so bad.

Yeah, that is exactly what I was thinking about.
If you look for problems, you will find them.
In my case I am more worried about noise than I am about screen issues, I am a programmer not really a graphic designer, I need lots of pixel space but I am not so concerned about perfect coloring.
In worst case scenario I'll just have to deal with some unit replacement, not that this is my plan....

Hey.

I am also going to order a iMac 27" i7 in around the first month of febuary. Hopefully the last problems have been washed out in the sand :p

I have heard other people that have got the iMacs i7 ones, and they have no problems with them. So i guess you shuld never trust anything you hear on the internet ;)

Off topic: As a programmer, why do you chose to use a mac? Becouse of the possibily to program to iPhone etc?

I am going to trust that persons experience with a gain of salt mate,

I ordered the day of the release, received it in November it's perfect.
ordered another two more i7's in November for gifts, also prefect.

Yeah some people are having issues for sure, the gentlemen you speak about returning 7 of them is one of those type of people that would bi*ch if you hung him with a new rope, we have all met people like this at very least once in our lives.

People like mentioned must make life so very frustrating & hard for themselves when it's totally unnecessary.

I think that I will stop by the Apple Store today to see if they have already ordered it, and if so, if they might already have it's serial number to see which week it is from.

Best of luck with it. I too ordered the i7 with 2TB, i didnt think about the noise issue just though of the extra space. Mine due at the very end of Jan. Fingers crossed that all will be ok.

Mine is due this week, will be reporting back on how awesome it is. Or something. :rolleyes:
 
My i7/2TB is on order, too, should ship 18th (I honestly thought this date would come forward, but it hasn't, and that could be a good thing).

At least we ordered knowing what the potential problems are likely to be. Odds are, of course, that our machines will be just fine.

Mine says ships on 20th and estimated delivery 28th. Obviously I'd like it earlier but if it comes fault free i'd take it at the later date.

Way to go. I totally agree. Yes there are problems with some of the units and that is sad but most people are not having problems. For the most part, those with no problems are not on these forums. I'm one of the many purchasers (week 47) who have not encountered any issues.

As an aside, the HDD issue was fairly brand specific and was a problem with both the 1TB and 2TB drives. My western digital 1TB is totally quiet. I have yet to hear it. However, its a crap shoot as to which brand you receive.
 
I ordered my 27" iMac, 2TB drive and 8gig of Ram on December 30th and it's saying that it'll ship on the 14th. I was a little hesitant after reading the posts on this forum as well but if there's an issue, I'll just exchange it.

My previous record with Apple products has been great (knock on wood). I'm not too worried in this case.
 
I've got a week 47 i7 with a SILENT 1TB Seagate HD, NO bad pixels in the iSight, NO cracked display, NO flicker, and I can only see yellow if I photograph a test screen and analyze with Photoshop. I'm also still on my first Magic Mouse batteries.

I think my history is the same as most purchasers, otherwise there would be far more reports in the news. Also the failure rate would be so costly that Apple would have to shut down production, which they haven't done.

I'm a programmer as well. I use a Mac because I develop Mac software and some iPhone apps. Mac software is developed using the Cocoa API and the coding is done in the Objective-C language (99% of the time using Xcode). In order to develop iPhone apps we must use the iPhone SDK with Xcode. Xcode only runs on OS X and Cocoa is native to OS X. Other than that it really doesn't matter which platform I develop on. I can develop using C, C++, Java, etc on any platform. I just choose to use a Mac because I like OS X and I've been using Macs since the day I purchased my very first computer.

I don't do any Windows development, so a Windows computer would be useless for me. Not to mention it would probably make me a very frustrated and angry individual :)

Haha, good call :D

Anyway, good luck to everybody ordering the new 27's. I'm convinced that the majority are just fine because there is no reason at all that your average user who gets a problem-free computer is going to come on here and post about it. You get enthusiasts, especially the ones with problems, scrambling to the internet demanding Steve Jobs' head on a platter when something goes wrong.

Regrettably I will be trying to get mine replaced, since the yellow tint went from almost imperceptible to quite noticeable over time. I'm not angry, and the guys I've talked to at Apple have all been very supportive and in fact have been encouraging me to go through the trouble of getting 100% what I paid for. When I tried to brush it off as not a huge problem, they talked me into pursuing a replacement. How often does that happen? Apple really seems to care, and it makes good sense too since one of their strongest selling points is their customer support reputation.
