Is it possible to select a destination folder for my photo's rather than use "photos"? I'm running High Sierra if that's relevant.
Many thanks in advance.

Cheers
John

I take it that when you connect your camera, Photos opens automatically and you import into there?

If you don't want Photos to open when you connect the camera, untick the "Open Photos For This Device" option at the top left of the Photos window.

Next create a destination Folder for your photos. Open Image Capture with the camera connected, select the camera in the Sidebar and then navigate to your chosen Folder in the Import bar at the bottom right of the window and then click Import.

Hope that helps.

That's most helpful David, thank you very much. I'll give it a try. It's actually an external drive that I hope to use as the destination.
