Detaching the Keyboard Folio

One thing I seriously dislike about the new Keyboard is that it's pretty inconvenient to detach it. If I take it out for quick notes in the metro, it takes some fiddling to put it away. I think they could've given more thought on that one, for example, providing a small notch somewhere to conveniently pull it away.

All in all, the overall feel of this thing is a joke for that amount of money. I'm very satisfied with the iPad and Pen, but the keyboard is no match at all. On the other hand, it's probably going to be the only one connecting that conveniently to the iPad. *sigh*

I don’t have it yet but I imagine that I would not detach it in this situation, instead just folding the keyboard behind the iPad.

I find it detaches quite easily, actually TOO easily in a lot of situations, if you start detaching it from where the camera cutout is.

I‘m really upset about this keyboard too, I‘ve gotten so used to the old one on the 10.5“, and this new one just SUCKS.
Especially when you fold it away, I almost never detached in anymore on the old iPad, because it was so comfortable to hold with the silky smooth back, but now it just feels wrong holding the iPad by the buttons of the keyboard. Very strange and sad kinda, because the device itself is awesome.

This is my number one reason not to get the 12,9“, because I already find the folio chunky and massive on the 11“ model this time around.

I understand the reason for the full back on the new smart keyboard/folio is to provide extra rigidity when in keyboard mode. But, it adds a lot of extra surface material, weight, and thickness that takes away from the thin and light nature of what makes an iPad an iPad. I don't know what I think of the new smart keyboard folio to be honest - it's nice to always have a keyboard available, but it is a compromise.

That said, I like the key feeel, it is identical to the 10.5, and I still like the material and how quiet it types.

I miss being able to fold the keyboard into the back and use it as a sand. I often used my 10.5 as a second monitor, and I dislike having the keyboard stuck out front now.

My 11” keyboard is a little bit snappier feeling than either my 10.5 or 9.7, but maybe it’s just because it’s new. I know a lot of people don’t like the feel but it works well for me.

If I use mine as a second screen, it will be with a Surface Go. For them to be side-by-side, the keyboards will stick out about the same amount. I’ll manage .

Good thing Apple makes another $80 - $100 accessory you can buy that fixes that pesky “keyboard in front” problem

Do you expect us to carry along that smart folio just for that? It’s so frustrating that int he 10.5” you could have both in a super lightweight package and now they compromised it like that.

I like it, and it’s likely to be the best solution for me, but I have some issues with it:
Would have liked a bit of texture on the front; it’s going to mark quickly
It’s hard to open and should have had a tab or something to facilitate opening it
It’s way, way too expensive for what it is...

The larger keys and smaller enter button take some getting used to from the 10.5 - ultimately I think that’s a good decision though...

I've just had the new keyboard folio for a few hours of use and so far I'm fine with it. I've never had a keyboard with my iPads so it will take some getting used to.

Not sure what you mean by your final point. The keyboard is identical to the 10.5 in size, texture, and button sizes. the only difference is some missing iconography on the new 11” keyboard.

interesting. not in the UK - the layout is different to my 10.5in (now has a double-height, narrower enter key). I wasn't clear in my post above, sorry - the keys as a whole are not larger, but one or two have been 'promoted'. Will post a pic if I remember later.

No worries, I keep forgetting there are other keyboards For other markets so no fault on you!
