Dev Team warned Iphone 3g users..avoid upgrading to new 2.2 firmware..

I heard a rumor that if you had jailbroken a 3g iphone and didnt restore the right way it may show up if you try to get it serviced personally I don't beleave it but you can never tell. I hope 2.2 is better!

If you're running a stock (non-jailbroken) OS, like most people, you can upgrade immediately, or as soon as you want any 2.2 features.

I think what they are saying is that whether or not your phone is jailbroken, if you upgrade to 2.2 you diminish later chances of unlocking it. This applies to all phones as far as I can tell.
This is a fairly common occurrence. Hacking Tag, I call it. It happened with the Sony PSP, and it's happening on the iPhone.
Simple fix. Restore jailbroken 2.1 iPhone to a clean firmware, then update to 2.2 and wait for the jailbreak.
Sucks for those who carrier-unlocked their iPhone's.
