I updated my M2 Air from Ventura to Sonoma and I came across a crucial bug. No matter what I do the laptop will stop using the internet within less than 5 minutes. I tried everything so far Disk Utility and etc….. Nothing helps. Even when I restart my pc there are times where it even comes on with no internet.

EDIT: Apple Senior Advisor Fixed the Issue for me.

On what WiFi network(s) is this happening?

I'm assuming you mean that it is at least happening on your own network. What is the router model there? What is the security mode for the WiFi?

Do you have, on the router, a DHCP reservation set for the Air that gives it the same local IP each time it connects?

I guess the first thing I'd try is "Forgetting" the network on the Air as well as deleting the password from Keychain. Then…reconnect.

On every WiFi network. It’s not connecting to the internet. I tried that solution to no avail. When I booted to system recovery and use safari it worked perfectly. I just reinstalled Mac OS Sonoma and it’s still having the same problem.

Ok, I think I found a quick fix. Running the Mac OS through Safe Mode and using Chrome. I can now browse web pages on the internet without it cutting off. When I use Safari it doesn't connect to the internet and instead says that it can't connect to ICloud Private Relay. I'm wondering if that can be the issue.

EDIT: Something is preventing my Mac from connecting to the internet. When I use Safe Mode it kinda resolves it?

There's another new post on the forum where the Sonoma update seems to have prevented the user from connecting via Ethernet and yet WiFi is still working.

I'll be waiting for two or three updates to Sonoma before I make the leap.

Yeah I don't blame you.

You could try in a new User Account.

Also, if you have space on your drive you could create a new volume on the APFS container and install a clean version of Sonoma to see if the issue exists in that.

I had this problem in Monterey earlier this summer. I had to back down to Big Sur. I later did a clean install with a later maintenance release and it cleared up the problem. I did not have problems with wired Ethernet.

To give a update. This issue has been escalated to Apple Senior Team and I should hopefully receive a call in the next hour.

I'm having issues with WiFi as well on my brand new Mac Mini Pro M2.

I updated to Sonoma after I got off work yesterday and everything seemed fine.

I sat down at my desk this morning and there is no internet connection despite the WiFi icon showing I'm clearly connected to the internet.

The WiFi and internet work fine on my Macbook Air 15" (knock on wood).

Thank God. When I tell you Apple Support is Top Tier it is Top Tier.

So here's the solution for anyone having the problem.

Check Login Items make sure there is none running. My Problem was from an Application I used a long time ago called Little Snitch. I deleted the app awhile back but I guess none of it was fully deleted.

I disabled Login Item "Objective Development Software GmbH"

Apple Support made me check the Filter tabs under Network. Kamboo. Little Snitch was running in the background even though it was deleted. I disabled the Filter option from Little Snitch and I'm happy to say I have Internet and don't have to run it in Safe Mode anymore.

Virus checkers, VPN, things like Little Snitch etc almost always cause problems when upgrading, especially for those of us who use the beta versions.

I don't use any type of virus checker or network monitor so haven't had issues personally, but this forum - especially the beta threads - is always littered with them. Usually, the tools get updated to fix issues pretty quickly, but that's not much use if you've borked your internet access and can't download the fixes :)

This is why a clean install sometimes resolves these problems.

It's always one of my fallbacks though it takes a lot longer to reload everything.
