Eh, so I heard there was a development fee for the iPhone/iPod Touch app creation process. Does not paying the fee prevent you from just placing apps on the App Store (so could you place apps on your physical device [not iPhone Simulator] without paying the fee)?

Or does not paying the fee prevent you from placing apps on the device entirely?

Also, could somebody give me a link to the source of this fee information (specifically official Apple website)?

Thanks!

You need to pay to put the device on your device (unless you are jailbroken, then there are work arounds.) Full information can be found at http://developer.apple.com/iphone

If you can't find out more about Apple's iPhone/iPod Touch developer program on their site is there hope for you to create an app at all?

I thought the fee gave you the SDK, which is somewhat necessary to do whatever you want to do.

Nah. Anyone can download the SDK. Just can't test on the device or place your app on the AppStore.

No, you can download the SDK by merely joining the Dev site (I have it on my Mac and haven't paid a fee yet). You have to pay the fee, however, before submitting any apps and gaining priveliges to install them on ANY devices.

Signing up and downloading the SDK for free gets you everything you need to develop and even test apps, except for putting an app on an actual iPhone or iPod Touch. Instead you have to test it in an iPhone Simulator on the Mac. Paying the $100 enables the section on their website where you can setup and download what you need to put an App on the iPhone and eventually submit it to Apple. It also gets you two developer support emails.

@ jessica. - I never stated I wanted to create an app.

@ DreamPod - Two developer e-mails... what do you mean? Apple sends you two e-mails with more information or something?

Thanks to all.

You get two code support tickets. If you are having a hell of a time with a function, you can email them (using a support ticket) and they will provide the code to do what you needed.

What if you need more help than two support tickets?

Thank you.
