I left a review for an app. I gave the app 4 stars because I was very happy with the support and functionality. However, I did criticise the app's appearance.

Following the review, I was contacted by the developer to ask me if I had posted the review criticising the appearance of his app. After checking his site, I notice he had also contacted someone else to ask if it was them calling his app ugly.

Is this appropriate? The app is part of a business and leads its target market. It isn't a developer creating it on the side, a reason why I was even more surprised to be contacted, or that the developer would even care.

If I contact my reviewers, I only ask for further feedback and see what they think I could do to improve it :)

But if s/he's contacted for you some other reason... erm well :rolleyes:

If they contact you to ask what they can do to improve or more information, then I have no problems. But if they contact to complain about your review, then that is just wrong. :(

Yeh, I'd agree. Except there was no question about improving, just one line "did you write the review saying XXXX was ugly?????". I said yes it was. I apologised but explained that I find the interface makes it look cheap. I've not had a reply.
I seem to have hit a bit of a nerve, but I still think it's a bit rude to track down and contact reviewers in this way, especially if it has nothing to do with improving the app.

I'm a developer and I'd like to see, on the App Store, a way for me to contact my buyers regarding their reviews. Clearing up doubts and wrongful complaints is something that should be encouraged. Whenever I can, I'll address a feature request in an update and even thank the reviewer. But providing feedback on reviews is VERY cumbersome in the App Store right now.

On the other hand, the developer in question didn't seem to take is etiquette classes very seriously. He could've been more friendly.
