Ok guys I need your help cause this is freaking me out. My friend installed Cydia a few weeks back. Today I wanted to install iOS 6...it downloaded full 760 MB and then suddenly showed me an error message.

I uninstalled each and every package of Cydia and now the Cydia icon is gone. Moreover, my Facetime and Photos icon are coming as white.

How to solve this issue and make sure that I can upgrade properly. I do not want any jailbreak anymore. Also, I have taken backup of all my apps and photos etc. So that should not be a problem.

Please Help.

Rahul

You need to restore your iphone back to stock via itunes and then update to ios6.

No jailbreak exploit is available yet.

Ok...so after I restore then all Jaibreak and Cydia will go forever right! And also what is the size of 5.1.1 that I need to download during the restore?

Finally, can I pause a download...what happens if there is a internet connection problem

Please Reply...

Thanks a lot for getting back to me.

Many believe that restoring as a new device gives a clean install although game saves etc are lost.

If you use a back up you are in danger of re installing redundant cydia files unless you use a back up from before you jail broke.

You will be updating to ios6 not 5.1.1

Ive never paused a download but i would assume thats all it is, a pause.

1. Plug your iPhone into your Mac and backup your device as you normally would.

2. Open Image Capture (just do a Spotlight search). Use this application to drag and drop your pictures and videos to a safe place on your computer.

3. Make sure iCloud is syncing your contacts with your Mac and the Cloud.

4. Now I am going to warn you, you will lose any application data, all text messages, and call history. FYI application data includes Game Saves, Settings, et cetera. Also I am assuming that you already have a backup of your music.

5. Double and Triple Check that your contacts are safely stored in the Cloud, and that all of your images are on your computer.

6. Make sure that your device is plugged into iTunes. Now hold your Home Button and Sleep Wake button for ten seconds. The moment you see the Apple logo (the device will power down first) release the Sleep/Wake button and continue to hold the home button. If done correctly, iTunes will detect an iPhone in recovery mode. Proceed to restore and download iOS 6. This method removes all traces of your jailbreak. If you were to take your phone to the genius bar, they would have no idea, and your warranty would be considered valid.

7. Set up your phone as a new device. DO NOT restore from a previous backup. That will leave residual files pointing to a previous Jailbreak. As such your device may exhibit some odd behavior. I only told you to back up just in case something went horribly wrong, such as losing your contacts. That happened when I restored my friend's phone. Luckily they were saved in a backup, and I avoided her resentment. (by resentment I am referring to a verbal asskicking :p)

8. Proceed to copy your media and applications over to your device. In terms of Photographs, I like to create an Album in iPhoto called Old Camera Roll (that contains the images and videos that I backed up earlier) and sync only that to my device. You can specify that in iTunes under the Photos tab.

Good luck. Feel free to PM me or reply with any questions. Enjoy iOS 6! :)

I'm having issues where I can't even restore my phone, due to only getting the option to restore & update. It errors out and says phone is not eligible or something. I have tried DFU mode with no success.

My phone will come back on and work like normal but just can't get iOS6. Any thoughts? Ideas?

Exactly what my iPhone 4 is doing. But with all the complaints about not having google maps or the youtube app maybe it's a good thing I am stuck on iOS 5.1.1 lol.

Was able to finally get it to update. Had to make some changes in terminal. :D

I have backup of all my apps and I have no contacts and hardly use that in my iPad. So backup and all is not any issue for me. Yesterday what frustrated me so much is that i used my Mobile's 4G connection to download 800 MB of software...I was tethering my mobile 4G to iPad Wifi. After the long download...it was showing preparing iOS and then an error came and just like that all is lost.

Later someone said that since Cydia is intaleed it is being detected by Apple. So I have uninstalled Cydia and all packages.

Do I also need the iOS 5.1.1 ipsw.... for my restore....or do I strictly follow your process.

Last question, when iTunes prompted me that iOS 6 is available I only choose Download ....so once that download is over, I hope this time iOS 6 files will be stored in my PC....

These are some questions I have in mind.

Hate cydia. Bringing problems

I am having the same problem. Now i know I WILL NEVER HACK MY PHONE AGAIN!! I deleted some Cydia packages and the icon dissapeared, I hope now the download works. It is the first time I try without cydia. The last times I tried was a complete failure because of the hack. hope it works now

Put your phone into DFU mode like I explained earlier. (you know, when you hold your power button and stuff)

This is a special mode that will allow you to completely wipe and restore your phone. If you are still unclear, watch this video.

Now, once iTunes has detected your device, don't click on restore. Instead, hold the Alt Key and click restore. A dialogue box will appear, which will allow you to navigate to an ipsw file. Download a safe, clean ipsw from Apple
here.

Now, just let your device restore. If you run into any errors (which you shouldn't) write them down and post them for us. Everything here is fixable!

If all goes well, you should have the option to restore your device from backup, or set up as a new phone. Remember, set your device up as a new phone!!!!

Good luck, and be sure to let us know what happens. :)

That doesn't help, a jb changes the file structure, cydia is only a small part of it, stop yelping about never jb-ing again, just follow the instructions and put the phone in DFU-mode to restore.

As the file structure is changed an OTA updat won't work, needs to be done through itunes, well documented issue.

Yes, stay away from JB because you are obviously clueless of what you are doing.

Solved the Issue

Thanks guys for all your help. I finally managed to solve the issue. It was a tweak I had to do to my Windows Hosts file. And now the ispw restore is complete and iOS 6 is working properly.
