I think my device setting on my 2nd internal HD is conflicting with my CDRW.
There are both set to 3. how do I change device settings?

When I boot up with a disk in the 2nd HD does not show up, I have to go in unlug it and reboot for it to show back up...

Any suggestions?

I have a G4 Tower 466mhz. With the stock 30G HD and an extra 90G HD installed. Everything works ok except when I reboot with a disk in the drive. then the HD does not show up.

I can insert a disk while using and still have access to the 2nd drive , as long as I dont reboot.

have you checked the jumper settings on the drives? (the little pin covers on the back of the drive in between the power and data pins)

CD's are usually set to master, so any other drive on that IDE ribbon needs to be jumpered as Slave (or Cable Select, which should work our for itself whether its Master or Slave). Likewise for two devices on the primary IDE channel.

Some drives seem better at CS setting than others - i had a Western Digital that refused to be anything other than Sole Master (!), so i tend to jumper them directly rather than use Cable Select (although that said, my Seagate's have never had a problem with it)
