Hey all,

So with the disappointing iMac situation on the 27th, I'm left with trying to make a decision and I wanted to ask a question to help make it a bit more informed.

My actual needs: The current iMac (I would get 27" 3.3Ghz, 395x/4GB VESA mounted iMac, with 32GB OWC memory / 1TB ssd) would do me fine for what I need for the next 3-4 years if I were to upgrade today. I'm a iOS developer that's chugging along on a 13" 2012 Macbook Pro. I want more screen real estate (I already use an external monitor) and some more power to get tasks done faster. I usually have xCode open along with lots of open tabs and resources going at once, photoshop, sketch, etc., along with the standard e-mail, calendar, blah, blah, blah.

My desires: Aside from that, I do some light gaming (mostly WoW) and my girlfriend does so photography work on my comp. And, I'd like to use bootcamp to do a little modest-looking Steam gaming. No I'm not buying an iMac to game on.... but something to serve all around; I'm not after the latest graphics and the highest performance.... I'd just build a PC if I was.

So my question is really in regards to the dGPU: what would a realistic bump in performance (for driving the screen and playing games (not in 5k, obviously)) look like on the next GPU upgrade, given what it might likely be? Is significant enough for it to be worth waiting for it? From what I gather, it will most likely be either Polaris or Vega - which I understand would be available late 2017... which is too long to wait if that's the case. I know the age old mantra: if you need it now, buy it; if you want it, wait. I can realistically (though begrudgingly) wait for another 6 months for Apple to update/upgrade the iMac if there's a significant performance increase in the graphics department. By significant, I mean, I'm not particularly interested in Kaby Lake as that's at best a modest upgrade.
