I am looking to emulate the way you can click and drag across items to select them in a web page. Basically, I want to click in the upper left of what would become a selection box and drag the mouse to the lower right and this would effectively draw a semi-transparent layer where I can still see the items beneath it.
To see what I mean, simply open a finder window. Click anywhere that is whitespace and then drag with the mouse button down. The same effect is in Windows XP too.
Anyone know a good site that may have source for this effect using DHTML? I know I could do this on my own with some time, but unfortunately I don't have very much at all.
PS. Whats the official term for this effect? Might help in my googling....
Thanks,
