iPod Diagnose this

I dropped my ipod 3rd generation click wheel (the one with the 4 buttons on top) about 2 years ago.
I loved that thing to death and when I dropped it, it stopped working.

I want to fix it but I don't know what's wrong with it and what will fix the problem.

1.When it turns on it says DISK MODE OK TO DISCONNECT
2. Does not connect to the computer. Will not show up on iTunes or as a hard drive using firewire.
3. Yes I have tried to get it out of disk mode, but that doesn't work.
4. Can hear the hard drive spinning.

What do you think I need to fix?

The drop probably damaged the hard drive. That would be what I would try to replace first.

If its the HD i would just buy a new one. I bet you have a nice size scratch as well. Its just not worth replacing a HD on an ipod

I already have a iPhone. This was my first iPod though.

Since you like it so much.

Replace the broken HDD with a compact flash card.
You will need an adapter which you can find on ebay.
Do a Google search and you'll find plenty of info on how to open the ipod and so forth. Might as well replace the battery while you're at it.
