I have a disabled friend who uses her iPad for everything. Dialling a new phone number is tricky for her on the iPad.

I'd like to make a Shortcut that plays a voice message that says: "say the phone number you'd like to dial" then summons Siri to listen to a dictated phone number.

I'm not sure how to do it. Any ideas?

Yes she can't manage that. But she could respond to a question asking her to say a phone number.

Shortcut could be:
  1. Speak (type in what you want Siri to say)
  2. Dictate text, with either a pause or tap (on a button) to stop listening
  3. Call ("Dictated text" will come up as the default)

That's great. Thanks guys. The only problem I have is that if I remain silent, I get this alert:

"Recognition Unavailable. Speech recognition is not currently available. You may need to connect to the internet."

This will be confusing for her. Any idea how I could get rid of this?

It's connected and it makes calls fine. The alert makes no sense. That's why I want to get rid of it.

Yes it doesn’t make sense. It’s the Apple standard error message if you remain silent. What do you want it to do if you remain silent?

Ah right. I'd like it to say "ok I won't dial now. Press Dial Number if you'd like to try again." And return to Home screen.

Back to homescreen can be done using the app, Launcher, I think. I really just need a If Dictated text = 0, then Speak “...”. But I cant work out how to make that work.
