My dictionary magically stopped working in Office X today. I did a spell check with obvious spelling errors in the document and it came up with no errors. Even if I type lsadjfkladhjg, it doesn't have the red underline and spellcheck doesn't catch it. I have "check spelling as you type" checked, so that isn't an issue.

I double-checked my path to the dictionary...it has it as user/library/preferences/microsoft/custom dictionary.

This has been the setting all along, and it has worked up until today. Also, I've deleted office, all files associated with it (prefs, etc) reinstalled, and it still doesn't work.

I tried to use the "English Dictionary" in the Word folder, but it tells me it is not valid.

What is your path to the dictionary? I don't know if custom dictionary is correct, but no other dictionaries work.

Help.

In the spelling/grammar section of the prefs make sure that you have checked both boxes that say check spelling and grammar as you type.(There are two, one for speeling and one for grammar)

Past that I have no clue.

A-HA! Figured it out.

There is a box in the spelling/grammer preferences called "Suggest from main dictionary only." I had to check it.

It might not catch spellings I've added along the way, but at least it will catch misspellings.
