It did for me. Totally fixed my Wifi problems. I can finally connect to my home network without my internet totally crashing :D And I still have my 5 bars. Though.. what was the point of making the smaller bars, bigger?

It was more for iPhone 4 users than it was for 3G and 3GS users who didn't have any reception issues in the first place... So it wasn't a benefit to those folks. Unless you want to see bars 1 and 2 more easily.

Strange, since I keep reading of 3G and 3GS users that are experiencing less bars too.. hm :\

I'm downloading 4.0.1 now...so I'm anxious to see if they fixed the message board posting bug I've been having:

Interestingly, I don't think it's an issue on this particular board...just every other msg board I visit on a regular basis...

Well, it did not fix the message board bug.

For me, using my iPhone 4 in my office at home, I dropped from 5 bars to bouncing between 4-2 bars after updating to 4.0.1. Also, when I run the speedtest.net app, my results are about 25-30% lower.

Real use though, no different (and compared to my previous 3GS, I think my reception has been a bit better even when I had 4.0).

I spoke too soon. Internet stops working again when I turn Wifi on. This blows. I can't figure out what's wrong :(

The only "fix" I got from it was showing me I have 3 bars instead 5 bars.

If anything else was "improved", its news to me. C'mon Steve, give us something we can work with later today. Otherwise I still have my (backup) 3GS that I'll be going back to that I rarely, if ever, had a problem with.

My 3G used to have the horrible lag with 4.0 but now it's running quick and snappy like before i upgraded to 4.0...

It might be your router. The same thing happens to me (on my iPhone 4, 3GS with 4.0 and MacBook) with my 7 year old Belkin. But if I switch to my neighbors unlocked signal, everything is fine. And TimeWarner is the only internet provider in my neighborhood at the moment.

I think it benefits everyone. We now have a more accurate graphical representation of our signal strength than we did before.

I'd have dropped calls on my 3G, and I'd glance to see that I supposedly had a great signal. At least now if I've got some important discussion lined up, I'll have the opportunity to either wait until I have better reception.. or maybe even move to a land-line.

Yes. It showing the TRUE bars. It hurts but true:(

When I took the case off my iPhone and tried the "death grip" after 4.0.1 it would only lose 1 bar.

I live in an area with flat land and lots of cell towers, perhaps AT&T loves my part of California. I've never had signal issues or dropped calls.

I don't want to know how bad the "real" reception is...so I don't want to update.

Yeah, it only happens with my router. Thing is, my PS3 hooks up fine to it so idk.. It's a WRT110 so it's not that old, I think I got it last year or the year before. :\ It fluctuates. Like right now, hooked up to Wifi and it's working fine.

Not at all. I still go right down to 1 bar with the call filling with static then dropping out..."call failed". I'm hopeful for this morning and what Steve has to say... I'm just hoping it's not all smoke and mirrors.

I can only get my death grip to take the bars down to 2 from 4 bars. Also I noted that my signal stays consistently at 4. And it might be my imagination but 3G seems faster than before.

Well, it enabled tethering for me once again. Thank you Apple.

For the last year, I've had the feeling they turn it on and off with every other update. Oh well, I reckon it will be gone again with 4.1.
