Other Did anyone else get a tax refund for traded in device at the Apple store?

I traded in my iPhone X to purchase the Pro Max yesterday and was surprised when they told me i'm also owed $35.50, which is the NYC sales tax amount on $400.

So Apple credited me the $400 plus $35.50 was refunded on my credit card, or I was also offered to put it on an Apple gift card.

So effectively, I got $435.50 for my X trade in which isn't too bad

Nope i just got the $370 for my XR, which I think is what Apple was quoting as the trade in amount.

I did, which surprised me. I got $220 for my iPhone 8 and then about $18 for tax refund

unfortunately here in Canada there is no tax refund on trade
