I have a 10.5 256 LTE Pro (Which I am going to keep) and a 512 gb second gen 12.9 pro ( I am selling it). I noticed on both of my devices I have used maybe 20 gigs of space. I have the 200gb iCloud plan. It's not like I was trying not to download stuff on my iPad's as I have plenty of room, I am just not much of a gamer and have Unlimited data so I stream a lot. I only had 54 gb of space taken up on my 512gb XS max and I download music to the phone for when I am in bad service areas.

Anyway, this time around I picked up a 11" LTE 256 gb similar to my pro, but this time I picked up the 64gb 12.9 LTE. This was the only model Verizon had available and so I made a judgment call based on my usage to give it a shot though I'm a little nervous. I am saving money this way though. I also have a 12" 2017 256 gb Macbook, and a 2018 512gb Pro. Did anyone else do this? Does the 200gb of iCloud make a big difference?

For either 11” or 12.9” new models I would suggest getting the 64gb model.

Actually the best is the 256gb model.

Next year you will probably sell the 10.5 model and still keep the 11” model.

The best offer I received was $425 for my 256 LTE 10.5 and it includes the Smart Keyboard. I said to myself "you know what? This is a solid iPad. You're being ripped off if you let it go for that little of a price." So, I took it off Facebook marketplace and just decided to keep it instead.

I have always bought the lowest storage model whether iPhone or iPad. I have never run out of storage even on the 16GB iPhone 4. It all depends on your usage. What works for one may not work for others.

Before the new iPad pros were announced, I was about to order a 10.5” with 512 gigs of storage(the largest at the time) since I do a lot of drawing as well as photo & video editing. I figured i’d just order the 11” with 512 then....but as soon as I found out the 1 TB came with 6 gigs of ram...I decided to bite the bullet and order that one instead. My rational is that I will be using it professionally, and for at least the next few years...so the insane price was worth the initial pain. If I was just using the iPad casually, I would have definitely gone for less storage space. Not 64 gigs, as I think this is the new 16 gigs, and will soon fill up even with the most casual of usage. Lowest I would go for would be the 256 I guess for casual use. Or 128 if that was offered, but it’s not.

I wanted a 512GB but with apple care, cellular, Apple Pencil, and the folio it had to give somewhere. Ended up with 256gb.

You lose a lot of resale when you buy large storage.

You aren’t kidding. Just sold my 512 second gen 12.9 and was not happy about what I ended up selling it for. You usually take a huge hit with large storage models.

A very smart move i feel.

I had a 64gb iPad Air that I used for 5 years. The first two years that storage was great, but recently, I was constantly filling it up on work trips (movies, shows, etc). For my iPad Pro 12.9", i debated 256 or 512, but went with 256.

I spent the weekend downloading 4K videos of the kids soccer games, editing them in LumaFusion, all while having work presentations and movies on it.

Even with all of that, I am at 109 GB... 256 should be plenty.

I had an iPad Pro 9.7 128 gig, and just upgraded to the 256 gig iPad Pro 11. I like to have my music local on the device as well as pictures, so nothing less than a 256 gig machine for me these days.

My Mimi is practically maxed out so I went for the 256gb IPP and think that will be more than enough space for me. I really wanted 128gb, but since it was not offered I had to move up to the next level..

My iPad is an accessory to me so I don’t need crazy amounts of storage. I’ve always opted for the lowest-end storage capacity for all the iPad’s I’ve owned, going back to the iPad 2. I opted for the same for my new iPad Pro.

Wanted 128GB (obviously wasn't available), thought about 64GB, and decided on 256GB.

I was in the camp of using iCloud for everything and getting the 64GB. Looked through all my devices' available storage and based on my usage, 256GB was a much better.

For me I feel that 128gb is the perfect size whether for a phone or an iPad. That allows me to store a decent amount of music without having to worry about shuffling around playlists, then on the iPhone a decent photo album while the iPad a decent video collection while traveling. 64GB would be more than adequate for daily usage (for me), but I'm concerned about running out of space while traveling.

Shame 128gb is not offered

I did not purchase due to overpriced nature of a product with a limited mobile OS.

Completely unnecessary comment. I guess it made you feel superior though.

Regardless, actually addressing the OP's question. I haven't purchased the new iPad pro yet but when I do I plan on purchasing the 1TB version (in Wifi only) I am rarely ever anywhere where there isn't wireless access and I always get the most memory available on my iOS devices out of fear of running out. Can't add memory after the fact line of thinking. The 6 gig of ram on the 1TB version really just solidified my decision.

I would have bought the 128 if such a creature had existed.

However, everything I have is on the cloud, so I went with the 64 instead of the 256. (Apparently I have until Jan 7 if I change my mind.) So far, so good.

I went from a 128 to a 64. I rely on iCloud and stream rather than download. 64 serves my needs but I think 128 is the sweet spot and Apple knows it.

Like others, I doubled my onboard storage this time around; coming from a 9.7 Pro with 128gb to a 12.9 with 256gb. I travel a lot and put a bunch of media (movies/music) on my iPad. It’s pretty cool having every Star Wars movie on slab of metal the size of a piece of paper. Well, cool for me, at least.

Right now, I’ve got the aforementioned Star Wars movies (except for the Clone Wars animated movie) plus 10 additional movies and about 16gb of music and I still have 100gb left. I’d be out of room if the iPad was a 128gb and really out of room on a 64gb model.

I do have the 50gb iCloud plan in a pinch, but I prefer having things available locally, if i can - especially since I have the WiFi only version.

I actually wanted the 1TB model but Target only carries 256GB as the max model so my decision was easy. I wanted the large storage for the extra RAM and to basically download my entire iTunes movie collection. But 256GB will still get me enough movies for when I deploy. Plus the 1TB model is ridiculously priced.

Agreed, 128GB is perfect for most.

64GB would've worked for me at home and I considered it, but I went with 256GB because I travel for work. With 4K movies, videos, etc., it'll take up 64GB instantly. You'd have to rely on always having internet access if you're 100% reliant on the cloud.

For you, I'd get the 256GB and not look back.

My 10.5 iPad was 256GB; the 12.9 I bought to replace it is 64GB as I was only using 25GB of storage on the 10.5. I also have the 200GB iCloud storage plan.

When all other tablet Mfg.s have Micro Memory slots in their tablet, why does Apple not? Is it because they make a lot of money selling the memory that must be bought installed with your iPhone or iPads?
