Just noticed this today, and I don’t think it’s been given its due. But with the newest update, Apple made it so you can turn off your device in the upper right hand corner of your control Center screen.

A more convenient way to turn off your device then going through settings, or the button press combo you need to do to pull up the ability to turn off your device.

I found it a bit unintuitive since it looks like a button but requires a Haptic Touch unlike the + on the other side. But it's certainly more visible than the other methods.

Yeah I was so happy when I noticed that. As the resident tech guru for the family it makes things easier for me telling people how to turn things off and back on.

I wonder why it is a haptic button though. Perhaps to avoid accidental power downs?

I don’t know how you can accidentally turn off the phone using this method. Even if it wasn’t haptic, tapping it still brings up the slide to turn off.

True, but bringing up the slide-to-turn-off and then cancelling it disables FaceID and you have to use the passcode to unlock the screen again. Maybe that had something to do with the decision to make it a haptic type button.

The thing I like most about it is, there's no "Slide for SOS" on that screen. Talking my mother through trying to restart her phone once, she slid the wrong slider (-‸ლ) and called 911

I thought it was a nice addition. I've answered the "Remind me - how do I turn this thing off?" question from family multiple times.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was unaware. I have been using a shortcut on the Home Screen to accomplish the same. Nice to know I can do away with the shortcut.

Me too. I'm glad they're also updating Siri to support for describing how to do things like that.

I don't switch my phone off. Just reboot sometimes and for that, I use an iCloud Shortcut.
