Did anyone succeed to have HDR output via HDMI with a generic Type C adapter on M1 Air?

I read a few times that only apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter can output HDR via HDMI on M1 machines.

I remember reading Anker’s one doesn’t output HDR, but what about others including the HDMI 2.1 ones like this? https://www.cablematters.com/pc-1368-122-48gbps-usb-c-adapter-supporting-8k-video.aspx

Are we stuck with official adapter for HDR over HDMI?

The Belkin adapter worked for me but only with a HDMI cable rated for 8K.

I'm trying to get HDR going on my Macbook Air M1 via USB-C to USB-C on a Philips 43" 4k HDR1000 monitor. There is not HDR option in the display prefs. Has anyone managed HDR via USB-C to USB-C? I have the official Apple adapter so will try that with HDMI however I'm keen to use USB-C.

Slightly unrelated, but do the cheap USB-C to HDMI cables on Amazon work with the MacBook Air M1? Not fussed about HDR or anything like that.
