It definately looks as if they were a lot more conservative with the application judging from that picture. But we also have to take in to consideration that the ifixit guys may have already taken it down once and re-applied a suitable amount before taking that picture. There are a few different variables that could flaw the conclusion but if thats how it came from Apple it looks much better than the earlier model MB(P)'s.

I was reading somewhere, I think it was a member here actually, that tried to do the repaste of the thermal grease, and he said it didn't do anything to the temperatures when he did it, so that would lead me to believe they did get it right on this time.

Did he say anything about the original application of TIC when he took it apart? Once my new MBP comes in i'm going to run a few stress tests and see if I'll need to tear mine down and re-apply. /me hopes I won't have to do that, looks like a PITA.

Frag, the one mentioned was a macbook, so i'm not sure about the macbook pro's being fixed or not yet.

Hopefully the assembly lines for both the MacBooks and MacBook Pro's are close and that the employees in that stage of the production talk to each other @ lunch and on smoke breaks, lol.

Now that i look at that picture again, the compound is very dark in color...similar to Arctic Silver and not the standard white grease apple has been using.

Anyone have access to the assembly manual for the MACBOOK and not the MBP?

I can't remember where i saw the pictures but i did see some specifically of a Macbook with extra helpings of mayonnaise... err thermal paste.

Chances are the Service guide is still wrong, but some of the people applying it have a little common sense and are ignoring the wrong instructions. That could explain why some are fine, and some are well...not.

Yeah, it could all depend on the person building your rig on a specific shift. Some of them may actually know a thing or two about computers, and some of them may just follow the service manual blindly to a "T" because they're complete n00000bs.
