First generation iPhone users don't get MMS? I'm not upgrading to the 3GS until January, but what about people who don't want to upgrade? They're just left behind in the dust? Sorry if this has been posted, but I didn't feel like searching, so any of you people who like to say "It's been posted a million times, why don't you search?", can take a hike! :D

Because they don't want to support that hardware anymore and don't have to.

We're on the 3rd generation now, they expect you to upgrade.

Whew that was quite a hike! Yes it's been discussed....no supporting hardware or some sort.

When I put the carrier hack on back on 3.0 Edge MMS was kind of iffy. They proably don't want to be bothered with trying to program retry. Because it would fail to send picture 1 out of every 10.

So instead they will just cut out the 1st gen and say **** it to anyone stuck on edge.

My 3g and 3gs fails to send most of the time, maybe because it's not supported yet.

3g connections sent perfectly, EDGE was iffy. It's supported. AT&T just wanted to beef up for what will diffently be a swarm of MMS.

For some one who lives in an edge only area (closest 3g is ~70 miles away), that would be hardly a good excuses to exclude the first gens. I could see if there was a nationwide 3g network. Many 3g/3gs users will spent 98% of their time on edge. That's why I highly doubt the exclusion is because of the network.

Left behind in the dust?

I understand that you may have paid $600 for your original iPhone (I did too!), but keep in mind, this is the tech industry. You are using a model that was released over 2 years ago, and discontinued 16 months ago. That's ancient history in the tech industry!

After your model hit EOM (end of marketing), Apple has no incentive to offer anything except bug fixes. They are a for-profit company, and that typically means that new features are only added to current models.

Your original iPhone still has all the features that Apple sold it to you within in 2007. They owe you nothing more, nothing less.

Anyhow, if you're jailbroken there's a hack (ActivateMMS, I think it's called) or Swirly. Both available in Cydia.

When I was on a plan which included mms I set up my phone so I could use it if I wanted.

Feel free to show me proof of that statistic that you just threw out as fact. Cause I'm gonna call MAJOR BS on that one! Most AT&T users live in major cities. Nearly all major cities have expanded 3G coverage. That just happens to make me think that maybe a little less than 98% of 3G/3Gs users spend most of their time on edge. Maybe....

Remember that the iPhone caters for a worldwide market, the US may only have 2% 3G coverage (although I doubt that) but most other countries in the world have good 3G coverage.

The statistic that you just twisted around and misrepresented? The poster was saying that many (not a majority of, and certainly not 98 percent of) people will spend 98 percent of their time on EDGE rather than 3G.

That could be true of many people without ever approaching a majority. And don't forget, there's a whole lot of this country that isn't in a major metro area and is outside the 3G coverage area.

Learn to read. I said MANY mot MOST. Across the US there are MANY (Greater then one, less then ALL) what will spent 98% of their time on edge. Like I needed to explain it again.

We where talk about 1st gen's last time I check which makes your point moot.
