Did Apple lie to the FCC about Google Voice?

Google has posted an unedited, un-redacted version of their letter to the FCC regarding the Google Voice App for the iPhone. It claims Phil Schiller himself was the one who rejected the app, not the 40 person panel.

It strongly contradicts Apple's response.

Which part are you talking about?

Here's what I see:

To FCC: Google Voice messed up the way our phone app works.
To Google: Google Voice confuses customers and will mess up the way our phone app is used.

I mean, that's different, but kind of just a different way of looking at it, not really a 'lie.'

Unless you're talking about some other part?
 
Not really shocked. If a great hardware comes out running wm7 my contract should be up by then. I'm tired of this walled garden ********.

Oh, well everyone understood that to be a slimey 'leagalese' term the instant they said it.

They claimed that they don't actually reject ANYTHING, they just refuse to accept it. Since Apple had told many other apps they were rejected before, it was known to be a silly lawyer trick from the moment they said it.

There's no new information here that changes what we knew already.

"On July 7, Mr. Eustace and Mr. Schiller spoke over the phone. It was during that call that Mr. Schiller informed Mr. Eustace that Apple was rejecting the Google Voice application for the reasons described above in 2(a)."
 
That says Schiller advised Eustace that Apple was rejecting the app, not that Schiller "himself" made the decision to reject it. I read the letter... just thought I missed something. Thanks.

It says Schiller informed, not rejected. The call to reject came from a higher up... guess who?:rolleyes:
 
It may not be a "lie" but it is a B$ excuse from apple... IMHO there is no valid reason to reject the app, other than greed and wanting too much control...

I don't blame you. at+t/apple's draconian over iphone is one of the main reasons I don't have one. What do u think of the google based phones? The g2 is nice, esp with its tighter integration with google apps than iphone

Am I the only one that just doesn't care? If you really need a GV app, you can just jailbreak your phone and get one.

Why does everyone seem so surprised by what Apple is doing? You knew before you bought your Mac / iPod / Apple TV / iPhone that they are a mini monopoly that likes to control your every move.

I'm all for openness, but this move by apple doesn't bother me at all. I also think that that since its public knowledge that AT$T has nothing to do with the rejection, they whole FCC investigation should be closed. It's apple's hardware, it's apple's software, they have the right to approve / reject any app they don't want. You don't like it? Either:
a) Jailbreak your phone
b) get an android device

Problem solved.
