I left a dead Apple Pencil 1 plugged in to my iPad Pro while the iPad upgrading to iOS 14.4 overnight.

Now my iPad won’t turn on.

Clarify, “dead Apple Pencil” means the Apple Pencil I haven’t used in 2 months, and the battery is dead.

I left the iPad on the charger for 4 hours but nothing. I plugged the iPad to my MBPr but it won’t show up on iTune. Also tried to hold the Home + Lock button for 15s while plugged it in the charger.

Did the Apple Pencil 1 just kill my iPad Pro ?

I have not heard about dead Pencil killing an iPad. I have heard about dead pencil not being able to resurrect. In other words I have read stories how such pencils cannot be used and remain dead.

What if something went wrong with the upgrade?

You took an upgrade off charger? If the battery was too low it wouldn’t have upgraded tho. If pencil had a short in it -it may have been possible while rebooting the short passed to lightening port on device. This wouldn’t happen if powered on as the OS monitors the port for stuff like that. I’d unplug everything for an hour, plug in iPad to a known tested and working charger for an hour, is it warm, does it turn on? If not unplug it and hold home hold the home button and lock button for at least a min.

If nothing happens you’re going to have to call Apple.

Ive put a "dead" Apple Pencil in my iPad Pro before. It didn't brick the device or anything like that.
