So after all the buzz of the new in ear headphones (not trying to start a discussion on those), i was wondering what the status was on the normal ipod headphones that ship with ipods.

There was some mention that the standard headphones were also going to get the mic, and i was wondering whether or not anyone who has purchased an ipod within the past few days (or will purchase one moderately soon) has seen them.

The standard earphones that come with iPod's were not going to be replaced, but rather Apple was going to come out with new earphones that you could buy afterwards, such as ones with the remote or the in ear ones with the remote. Apple is not going to replace the standard ones that come in the iPod box.

This is true - for now. But will Apple really keep 2 assembly lines open? I think the buds will be replaced eventually. For now, the store says the new buds will be available in 2-3 weeks. So, there's no point at all in ordering now. Wait until they're actually available - unless you enjoy having others hold on to your money for long periods of time for no reason.
