Two days ago, after rendering and compressing video, one of our iMacs began displaying the grey screen at boot time, "You need to reboot your computer. Hold the power button or press the reset button" message. The Mac would then only boot in safe mode.
So we moved the project to my newer 24inch iMac, finished the project and now this newer machine is doing the same thing! Grey screen at boot and runs only in safe mode. I am running all the latest patches, etc.. However, I only just installed the latest Compressor and Qmaster updates (for OS 10.5.5) after this behavior started. Is it possible the previous version of Compressor corrupted the kernel or caches on both of these machines or ???
Both iMacs are Intel-based.
I understand the grey screen at boot generally means a hardware problem, but this is just too much of a coincidence. Any thoughts?
thanks
Phil
