For the first six months the phone was fine. But in the last six months it has developed multiple issues. It randomly gets really uncomfortably hot and the only way to fix this is turn it off for a while. The lightning connector often won’t recognise connections to it like headphones, or even charge the phone. As well as this the battery health has suddenly started plummeting like a stone. I’ve only owned the phone 12 months it feels more like a five year old phone. I don’t have any insurance on the phone.

Unusual.....
Does it charge with a Magsafe charger?
What is the history on the battery health?
Did you ever take it to the Apple Store for evaluation before your warranty expired?
Have you tried a restart or reset?

The battery has been stable at 100% for ages then I looked about ten days ago & it was down to 96%. I looked again two days ago and it was down to 94%.

I cannot reset it as I cannot back it up to my laptop as it will not connect. I cannot cloud backup as I have far too much on my phone.

I had an apple headphone adapter that suddenly stopped working six months ago. I got a third party one that lasted four months. Then another Apple one that was ok at first but now may or may not work just randomly. The battery charger is an Apple iPhone one I’ve had about three years now.

Due to mobility issues there is no way I can get to my nearest Apple Store which is a good distance from me.

The battery on my 13 Pro has done the same thing as yours.
You should check your Lightning port for lint or other foreign material. You can do this by gently puttiing something non-conductive, like a toothpick, in there and trying to grab any lint that might have accumulated at the far end of the port.

Could some chemicals have damaged the lighting port as we recently had issues with our sink and I had to use some strong chemicals to clean up afterwards out there, and I wonder if the phone could have picked up some off the surfaces somehow. But I honestly cannot think how they would have got into a recessed port.

What kind of chemicals, and did any spill or splash into the port?
What does the inside of the port & contacts look like?
Corrosion?
Lint?
Any dirt?
Contacts clean?

There was nothing physically in the lightning connector. I didn’t spill anything just used bleach to clean some surfaces afterwards but the phone wasn’t on those surfaces at any point.

After only a few days the battery has dropped again now to 93%.
