Me and my brother both got 3G's today, but mine has a couple of problems that his doesnt.

- On the youtube app my video quality is GARBAGE. His looks fine. Mine isn't even worth watching, you can barely see what's going on

-His internet is signifcantly faster. We tried multiple times throughout the day and his was always way faster

- Just something weird I noticed. When typing on the internet, the "a" button on the keypad doesn't always get bigger when you press it like the other ones do.

The only thing I could think of is that I did the software update on iTunes and he didn't. Does that have anything to do with it?

What should I do? Send it back?

Is he connected to wifi by chance?

youtube video quality is junk over 3G to cut down data usage. wifi plays at full quality. That could also be why his internet is faster?

Ok maybe I'm an idiot, here's what just happened. Keep in mind I've never owned an Apple product before and I know pretty much nothing about any of this stuff.

When you try to open Safari or youtube, it sometimes prompts you with a "choose wi-fi network" popup )or something to that effect.

Well, I had been pressing cancel all day. He had been also, except he said ONCE earlier today he chose one of the wi-fi options.

Well I just tried picking linsys and it's as fast as his now and the video quality is normal.

Can someone explain to me what this option is, and why is only asks you sometimes? We both restarted our iPhones to see if it lost the settings or whatever, but mine is still working fast like his.

So what is this? Wi-fi is faster than 3g if you're near a connection? Will it automatically use wi-fi for me now when I'm near it now that I selected it once? Does this mean it will go back to the crappy quality once I'm not near a wireless connection?

Like I said, I know nothing about this stuff, so sorry if I sound retarded.

Once you accept a wifi network, whenever the iPhone has a chance it will log onto it without a prompt. I suppose it figures that since you approved it once, you will always approve it so it saves you the hassle. Wifi is always faster than 3g which is always faster than Edge. I'm sure someone will says this isn't always true but for the most part it is.
The only trouble I've found with this setup happens at my place of work. Certain sites have been blocked by the IT department and these include my online email provider. Therefore when I'm automatically logged onto the wifi at work, my mail is not downloaded. I was having email problems before the latest update so I don't know if the iPhone knows that something is blocked and tries to download it using another network, like 3g.
Anyway, hope this helps you somewhat.
