I've got a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD delivering tomorrow for my early 2009 mini. I've just found some pages that suggest that I won't get full speed from it due to issues with the mini's SATA controller not being fully compatible with the SSD's onboard controller.

Do I need to return it and replace it with a different brand? Although according to the tech specs on Samsung's corporate site, it uses the Samsung MGX controller, and not the SandForce 2281 that's supposedly the biggest problem with the mini's NVidia MCP79.

You will be fine. There are some compatibility issues with those Nvidia controllers and some SSDs... but the EVO does not seem to be among the troublesome SSDs.

Just installed it, and I was only getting 1.5 Gbps. Did a bit of Googling and discovered a comment that delaying the boot process using Startup Manager might help. Tried it, and I'm getting 3 Gbps.

Could you share the comment link or the steps you took?
