did i just damage my mbp lcd using this lcd cleaner?

i usually clean my lcd with iklear, but my screen got really dirty so i grabbed *kensington screen guardian screen cleaner* that was lying around at my office. it said on the label, "safe for anti-glare and polarized lcds" i then saw that its ingredients were: water 2-butoxyethanol and ethanol.
after cleaning it, i read on some sites that using alcohol to clean the lcd will cause damage to the screen. butoxyethanol and ethanol is a form of alcohol, correct?
did i just do some damage to the lcd?..maybe mess up the coating...or no? oh, and by the way its the glossy 15in
i only used the kensington screen guardian one time

Well, what does your screen look like now? Ethanol is a form of alcohol but I would think that if it damages your screen you would notice it fairly quickly. Your screen would look hazy if the cleaner damages your screen.

I seldom use screen cleaners, just a chamois and sometimes a little damp cloth.

could using alcohol once possibly make the grain worse?

If it damaged it then it is very likely that more will make it worse. I would suggest using a slightly damp soft cloth. Water should take off any residue that the alcohols left behind.

i use a large soft camelhair make-up type brush to lightly brush dust etc from my screen. then i just use a soft cloth (t-shirt) moistened with windex. never had problem

i heard windex was horrible for screens...did u use that on a glossy or matte?

iKlear; when used correctly, works very well.

I use the iKlear brand disposable "Travel Singles". You gently, and evenly, wipe the cool (power-off) screen. Then you take the blue micro-chamois and polish the screen dry top to bottom until the screen is "polished" dry.

I relate this process to waxing a car. First you apply wax, then you polish it till the wax is all gone and the surface is dry and perfectly clean & clear.

I like the travel wipes as they are new (fresh, no embedded dirt) each time. My only concern is that the included blue micro-chamois or your own micro-fiber cloth is perfectly clean (of dirt that can scratch) each time.

I thought I scratched my screen this weekend with a dry "marware" cloth, but the iKlear process above renewed my screen to perfect condition. I immediately tossed my Marware package (wrist rest & especially the gray keyboard rag with large stitching) into the garbage! The Marware cloth almost damaged my screen!

i have a glossy screen.

windex is just ammonia & water. damage virtually nothing (unless mixed with clorox then it's lethal to humans)

the main thing to make sure of is that all grit is removed before you touch the screen with anyhing - hence the soft brush. like washing your car - you rinse it first so you get all the grit off first before you scrub it with anything. the grit from dust & dirt scoured into the finish is what scratches and destroys it.
so the most important thing is to gently brush away the grit first. then you can clean it with just aobut anything. eyeglass cleaner, windex, vinegar, etc.
of course - don't use anything that will harm plastic (like fingernail polish remover). basically, anything you would clean plastic eyeglass lenses with will do perfectly.

make sure any cloth you use is clean. don't use one that was dried with a fabric softener as it will smear on the screen (you'll have to clean it again).
