The right choice depends on your needs and preferences and budget, etc.

If it meets your needs, preferences and budget, then you have made the right choice for yourself :)

Congrats, enjoy the world of photography.

Even entry level kits are suprisingly good. Go out and use it now - this will help you figure out what (and how) you like to shoot, which will in turn help you make decisions in the future regarding buying lenses, features you want when you eventually replace this camera body, etc.

When you take a bad photograph, sit down and try to figure out what factors led to that. A lot of times people will blame the equipment when it's really user error. You can learn as much or more from a bad photo as you can from a good one, IMO.

Have fun, and don't take it too seriously!

The only mistake you made was not getting it sooner! Photography is such a fun hobby.

Very fun, but can end up being very expensive.
Talking about costs, OP, you might want to look into adding the Canon 55-250 to experiment with longer focal lengths :p

This or a 50mm f1.8 prime. Or a flash. Or a tripod. Or a 70-200L f2.8 IS.

Kiss goodbye to your wallet :p

And after that, look into a cheap 50mm f/1.8.

After that, look into a slightly more expensive 50mm f/1.4.

And then, look into getting an f/2.8 zoom.

And then, look into getting either a wide-angle, macro, or other fancy prime lens.

At some point, look into getting a full-frame camera.

And a tripod.

And then, a better tripod.

And lighting equipment.

And so on.

(Yes, photography is an easy way to of make lots of money disappear.)

Have fun!

Edit:

@Gold89: You beat me to the punch.
