Hi all,

I have been eagerly awaiting the new redesigned MacBook Air, my use case is just general web browsing, checking emails, watching videos etc… however I do also do some music, video editing and website design.

Now all rumours are pointing to the new MacBook Air coming in at around £1200-£1300, however, yesterday I noticed a great offer online for the baseline MacBook Pro 14” which after discounts instead of costing £1899, it works out to only £1440 brand new.

It’s currently on order and I am awaiting delivery (I know it’s probably way over spec’s for my needs), I am just wondering if I made the right choice taking the plunge now or should I have just waited and saved myself a few £££ and gone with the Air when it launches.

I do like the fact it has more ports, 120hz miniLED display and a 1080p webcam, plus the other bells and whistles… some of which I doubt would of made it to the Air so would have been a compromise… but I would have much preferred the better battery life on the Air but at the same time I would have likely upgraded to 16GB RAM and the 512GB storage option… so that factored into my decision to take the plunge now.

What do you guys think???

For a discount like that, I don’t blame you for grabbing the MBP and not waiting. Given similar circumstances, I would have done the same. Also, nobody really knows when the new Air is coming, or what features/aesthetics it will have, or what the pricing will look like. All speculation at this point.

I was too waiting for the Air but figures heck , I need it now and won't buy an "old" machine at the end cycle, so went with the 14.

Thanks to Amazon I paid 14% less 2010 euros compared with the Air with the same amount of ram and SSD is about € 1659.

All in all, for 351 euro I gain a 120 Hz screen, a bigger screen (well 1 inch) better speakers better CPU, better camera mag safe and more ports.

It will also last a little bit longer i guess, and I could use some of the extra power for my Affinity work.

Yeah I have been looking on Apples website, and if the Air came in at the same £999 price point, if I upgrade the RAM to 16GB and the SSD to 512GB I would likely be looking at the same price as what I paid for the pro… (but I doubt that will happen with the refresh)… the only thing I will miss out on I think is the additional battery life and having an unbinned chip and a generally lighter more portable device, but in return I will be getting all the latest tech features of the MBP… including all the ports etc…

True, but an all day battery is enough i guess, for portability it's true the 14 will be heavier / bulkier

If you like the MacBook Pro form factor then yes absolutely. Rumors now say next year for the redesign so I might go for the 14" MBP. The only possible negative is the new Air will likely be thinner and lighter but if you don't have an issue with that then it's fine. The Pro will have a better screen so that's the big selling point to me about getting the Pro.

Received mine yesterday, after a full day of use I can say, It's the right choice.

Love the form factor, the screen and it screams quality, I think is def worth the price upgrade, you will love it!
